LCANZI Member update 26 July 2021
Notice of AGM business
The LCANZI Rules require us to give 14 days notice to Members of the business we intend to conduct at the AGM. See attached for the Notice of AGM Business.
Fundraising for administrator position
Thank you everyone who has made a generous donation to LCANZI to help match the $15,000 pledge from one of our members. Every little bit helps, and once we reach our goal, we will advertise for the administrator position. We are excited to see the possibilities for action that will be opened up by having a dedicated administrator for our work.
We have currently received $13,485 in donations and new membership subcriptions this month. So we only need $1,515 more to meet our goal.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to donate to help us meet our goal, click here.
Call for volunteers for our ETS Working Group
LCANZI is setting up a working group to look into the ETS and figure out how we can take action to improve how NZ uses this important tool to reduce its emissions. Any Members with expertise, or an interest, in the ETS can contact admin@lawyersforclimateaction.nz to volunteer for the working group.
Decision on FirstGas complaint
We are really pleased to have received a good result on the complaint that we made to the Advertising Standards Authority. The ASA Complaints Board rules that FirstGas’ “Zero-carbon gas” advertising campaign was misleading. Click here to see our press release on the decision.
A huge part of the transition to a zero‑carbon economy is allowing consumers to make low emissions choices. If businesses mislead consumers about how green their products are, they take away consumers’ ability to make an informed choice.
Thank you to our member, Steven Price, who drafted the complaint.
Christchurch Film Festival Fundraiser - 26 August
On 26 August at 4.30pm 2degrees are holding a film festival to promote wellness and enjoying the great outdoors. They have kindly offered for donations from tickets to go to LCANZI. There will be ice creams, popcorn and phone handset spot prizes. So, we look forward to seeing all our Christchurch members there. Make a donation to this Givealittle page if you want to come (and to be in to win a spot prize!).
More info can be found in the attached flyer.
