LCANZI Newsletter - July 2022
Kia ora koutou,
Please see our July newsletter below for an update of the last month.
All Aboard Aotearoa Judicial Review
The All Aboard Aotearoa judicial review judgment was released today. The judicial review challenged Auckland’s Regional Land Transport plan on the basis it is inconsistent with the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport which calls for the rapid transition to a low carbon transport system. While we continue to believe the issues raised in the case were important and worthy of judicial intervention, the judgment was not in All Aboard Aotearoa’s favour. The judgment will be available on our website in the coming days and we will send it out in next month’s newsletter.
Smith v Fonterra: Submission
Last month LCANZI was granted leave to intervene in the Supreme Court for the appeal from the Court of Appeal’s strike out decision, which, if upheld, would prematurely block potential tort law responses to climate change and could limit the ability of the law to respond to the significant social and economic change that climate change will bring over coming decades.
LCANZI has filed a written submission and the hearing will be next month.
Charitable status
LCANZI has been granted charitable status so we are now a registered charity! This does not change how we receive donations at this stage but does mean that all donations to us over $5 now qualify for a tax rebate!
Who’s worse at climate change Aus, NZ or UK?
To wrap up our monthly update here are some infographics to show that we need to keep fighting for effective action against climate change in New Zealand.
Ngā mihi maioha for your support and we will update you again soon.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā!
