Inaugural AGM held on 29 June 2019
The inaugural AGM for Lawyers for Climate Action NZ Inc. was held on 29 June 2019.
We elected the Committee. The Committee Members are as follows: Jenny Cooper QC (President), Carol Weaver (Secretary), James Every-Palmer QC (Treasurer), Duncan Ballinger, Sophie Gladwell, Bronwyn Carruthers and Stephen Mills QC.
We also had a presentation from Dr Paul Winton of Temple Investment on “Meeting New Zealand’s +1.5C 2030 IPCC obligations”.
Dr. Paul Winton helps private equity funds and corporates make complex investment decisions in particular in industries that are in a state of change. Previously, Paul worked with global strategy consulting company McKinsey & Company serving clients in Australasia, Asia, USA and Europe across multiple industry sectors. Paul was born in New Zealand and educated in New Zealand and Canada and holds a PhD and a BE (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Over the past nine months Paul has been exploring ways New Zealand can deliver on its climate change obligations.
He has recently launched “The 1.5 Project” that aims to focus and amplify the voices of those working towards a +1.5C world. Paul will present and facilitate a discussion on his summary research on the science of climate change and the implications of the increasingly accepted 1.5C targets on New Zealand, and outline a pragmatically prioritised path New Zealand might take to deliver its emissions reduction obligations by 2030.
